World: Barley trade forecast unchanged at 25.21 mln tonnes this month

In its October report, USDA left the forecast for world barley trade in 2017/18 unchanged at 25.21 mln tonnes versus 29.765 mln tonnes forecast for 2016/17.

China barley import forecast for 2017/18 is boosted 1.0 million tonnes to 5.5 million on the expectation of higher demand for feed grains in the absence of imported distillers’ dried grains and on favorable import margins in grain deficit regions.

Saudi Arabia barley import forecast is cut 1.0 million tonnes to 9.0 million reflecting stronger demand for China from relatively tight global exportable supplies.

For 2016/17, Russia’s total barley export forecast is raised 350,000 tonnes to 3.6 million, Canada barley export forecast is up 250,000 tonnes to 1.7 million, and Australia barley export is boosted 200,000 tonnes to 9.5 million, USDA said.

China barley import forecast for 2016/17 is boosted 600,000 tonnes to 7.6 million.

World barley production forecast for 2017/18 is set at 142.001 mln tonnes this month versus 141.864 mln tonnes in the September report and 148.026 mln forecast for 2016/17. Total barley consumption is forecast at 147.382 mln tonnes (147.582 mln in September, 150.061 mln in 2016/17), and ending stocks at 19.010 mln tonnes (18.612 and 24.391 mln, respectively).
