Australia: Townsville Brewing Company challenged

The Townsville Brewing Company is creating a new brand of beer for Cairns, The Townsville Bulletin posted May 30.
When news of this reached a far north entrepreneur, he revealed his plans to start another microbrewery in Cairns.
Cairns has been without one for 14 years, but a 'brewpub' similar to Townsville's Brewery, is being brought to a secret location in the city's CBD.
When Brewery head brewer Mitch Bradey was asked whether another North Queensland microbrewery would pose much of a challenge, he had this to say: "Not at all. It won't interfere with our market."
In the short time they've been in the industry (four years) the brewery has built up a portfolio of close to 30 international awards.
Two weeks ago they claimed four medals at the Australian International Beer Awards in Melbourne with Townsville Bitter Light Lager winning best in its class.
And they have plenty of secret weapons to add to their artillery.
"Somewhere down the track we're looking at a Scottish ale and a Mexican lager, like Corona," Mr Bradey said.
Townsville was home to two breweries in the late 19th century, the City Brewery on Charters Towers Rd and the Townsville Brewery at what is now known as the Playpen building on Flinders St West.
After re-establishing in 2001, the Townsville Brewing Company moved into the old Townsville post office building under the guidance of master brewer Brendan Flanagan, who lent his name to the award winning Flanagan's Dry Irish Stout.
Mr Bradey said the secret to the brewery's success was a culmination of brewer artistry and top notch equipment.
"There is definitely an artistic quality to the job," Mr Bradey said.
"So while the recipe's invented right here on the premises, with the backing of good quality equipment, you can produce high level products."
Mr Bradey said there was definitely a market in North Queensland for another microbrewery, and had this simple message for his would-be opponent: "Good luck and all the best."
