Barley news Canada: Barley production forecast rises to 9 mln tonnes

Canada’s barley production forecast has risen to 9.0 mln tonnes, with better yield results driving an increase of +0.5 mln tonnes, RMI Analytics said in their latest report.

While barley export volumes have been good during the start of crop’25 shipping season, there is strong competition expected in global markets. China’s barley imports in September were only 4% from Canada.

Malting barley prices are down, to better enable price competitiveness in world markets. Domestic feed barley prices are steady, despite firmer US corn prices.

The domestic market is finding support during a typical postharvest lull, with farmers not selling and feeders well covered for the time being.
