Barley news Canada & USA: Persistent rainfall less than ideal for both Canada and US barley crops

Persistent rainfall is less than ideal, as US barley harvest advances (currently around 40% complete) and Canadian combines are beginning to roll (<10%), RMI Analytics said in their late August report.

The impact of these rains varies depending on timing of seeding. More rain is forecast across northern Canada but clear in the US. RMI’s barley crop forecast for Canada is up +0.1 mln tonnes to 8.2 mln tonnes.

While harvest struggles to get started, export prices for malting and feed barley are unchanged. For crop’25, farmer selling is limited as harvest is off to a slow start. Farmer selling of old crop is active, impacted by the threat of US corn imports which leaves domestic feed barley weak.
