Brewing news USA, MA: Clover Road Brewing Company already open in Hudson

There's a new brewery Hudson, and it's in a familiar location, the MetroWest Daily News reported on September 21.

Clover Road Brewing Company opened its doors Sept. 9 at 312 Main St. Local beer drinkers may recognize that spot as that of the former Ground Effect Brewing Company, which closed earlier this summer.

"This opportunity just happened to find us and we started to look into whether it was possible," said Allan Waite, co-owner of Clover Road Brewing. "That's where the name came from, we just felt we were lucky to find this opportunity."

The brewery is owned by four friends who have known one another since attending the Francis W. Parker School at Devens more than 20 years ago. Besides Waite, co-owners include John Muldoon, Jake LeBlanc and James Wong, as well as spouses and other family members.

The group has been together since high school, said Waite.

"We wanted to do something together as a group, as we don't spend as much time together as we used to, with us getting older and starting families," he said.

Clover Road Brewing will have some continuity with its predecessor. The head brewer is Marlborough native Tim Daley, who served in that capacity for Ground Effect.

Some beers will be similar, but Clover Road hopes to take more chances with its beer and put its own stamp on its offerings, Waite said.

"For example, we're going to have a Pilsner, but instead of a Czech style it will be German style," said Waite. "We want to be more creative and not be afraid to take some chances with some more experimental beers."

The brewery will eventually have at least eight beers on tap and will offer growlers to go. They also plan to can beers in the future, Waite said.

Clover Road will be from 4-9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 4-10 p.m. Friday; noon to 10:30 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.

"The town has been really great," said Waite. "The other local businesses have been friendly and helpful, especially Medusa (Brewing Company). They've been nothing but helpful and we're hoping to keep that relationship going."
