Barley news Denmark: Barley quality reported as very good except for protein contents

Denmark’s spring barley acreage is estimated at 540-550,000 ha, trade yield estimates are 6.9 tonnes/ha, production up to 3.75 mln tonnes this year, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their September report.

The barley quality is very good, except for the protein contents from below 9% to an average of maximum 9.5%. The selection of malting barley is 0.3 mln tonnes for domestic maltsters and 1.2 mln tonnes for export.

On paper there is a larger surplus of malting barley in Denmark, it always depends on the malt premium above feed barley delivered to the Danish pig farms. South Sweden is really part of the same market, it has harvested the same good crop and may have an additional surplus of 200,000 tonnes for export, the analysts said.
