Barley news France: Good winter barley crop harvested this year, differences reported across spring crops from southwest to northeast

France harvested a good winter barley crop of 8.2 mln tonnes (incl. 800 thousand tonnes of fall-planted spring barley), can select +/- 2.2 mln tonnes for malting depending on markets. Quality specifications are good, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier this month.

Spring barley yields of 5.5 tonnes/ha were 10% lower than last year, the harvested quantity is 3.6 mln tonnes of spring varieties.

There are wide differences from southwest to the northeast, poor screenings and very high proteins in large parts of the country downgrade the average quality of the crop. The selection forecast of 65% = app. 2.4 mln tonnes depends on the acceptance of max. 12 or 12.5% protein.
