USA, PA: Ever Grain Brewing Co. in process of opening new brewpub in Cumberland County

Ever Grain Brewing Co. in Hampden Township is brewing up a project in Cumberland County, PennLive.com reported on September 14.

Co-owner Norm Fromm confirmed the partners, who also own Brewhouse Grille in Lower Allen Township, are in the process of opening a yet-to-be named brewpub at 316 Bridge St. in New Cumberland.

The six-day a week operation will focus on wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches and salads with eventual plans to add on-site brewing.

“I live in New Cumberland and it’s a great town,” said Fromm, co-founder with Larry Dolan.

An opening date has not been announced. At this point, like many restaurant owners with projects in the pipeline, From said supply chain issues have delayed the opening. They are waiting on a delivery of storefront glass to install in the front of the building, which is torn apart.

“The supply chain is ridiculous. We’ve had this glass ordered for some time,” Fromm said, adding he calls his contractor weekly to check on the status.

Otherwise, he said the restaurant’s interior is pretty much complete, and with the extra time they are tinkering with additional decorative touches. They’ve renovated the exterior and interior including refinishing a large basement they hope to rent out to a tenant.

Fromm said they purchased the building several years ago after Dingeldein Bakery closed at the site, the former home base for Shugar’s Philly Deli, and more recently Nonna’s Italian Restaurant.

Fromm and Dolan opened Ever Grain about five years ago and have no plans to close the Hampden Township taproom. Ever Grain brews its own beer and prides itself on using fresh, local ingredients for favorites such as a hazy New England IPA Joose Juicy; Big Amps stout; and its Sorbetto sour series.

Ever Grain’s portfolio of beers will be on tap at the new brewpub, where eventually Fromm said beer also will be brewed. At this point, he’s not sure when new brewing equipment can be secured due to the ongoing supply chain issues.

Menu items will be built around fresh, seasonal ingredients including some grown on the partner’s Ever Grain Farm in Upper Allen Township, Fromm said. They purchased the farm a few years ago to grow ingredients for beers.

Their brewpub will join other new ventures in the borough including the renovated West Shore Theatre as well as plans for a riverfront park with walking trail. Longtime landmark, Coakley’s Restaurant & Irish Pub on Bridge Street, also is slated for major renovations.

Ever Grain also has another project in the works at the former Sports City Athletics along Linglestown Road in Lower Paxton Township, but Fromm is mum about details, other than to say the project will likely take several years.
