Barley news North America: Barley harvest advancing in the US, starting in Canada with good prospects in both countries

Barley harvest is advancing across the US, and Canada is getting started. Weather is generally favourable in both countries, RMI Analytics said in their late August report.

The USDA forecasts a rebound in Idaho production (+43%) with a potential for record yields in this largely irrigated region.

Prospects are good for a much needed rebound in production and fixing of a tight North America barley situation, the analysts said.

Canada production forecast remains at 10.2 mln tonnes; ending stocks are slightly higher due to small reductions in export shipments and local feed demand.

Malting barley prices are lower, in alignment with global prices and reflecting the progress in North America harvest which is reparing the situation from the drought in 2021.

Feed barley values continue to drop lower in southern Alberta at CAD345/tonne Delivered (down CAD25/tonne).
