Barley news EU: Winter crop assured with good yields and quality, spring barley now the focus

EU’s winter barley crop is assured with good yields and quality, RMI Analytics said in their late July report.

Spring barley is now the focus and with harvest advancing under good conditions, but with French yields down 10%. Quality is reported as good.

RMI Analytics’ EU27+UK crop output remains at 58 mln tonnes.

Good yield reports indicate a larger Russian barley crop (wheat crop good as well). RMI analysts expect Russia’s barley crop to amount to 19.8 mln tonnes (up from 18.9 mln last year).

European barley prices continue to drift lower as harvest moves to spring barley. Malting premiums remain high but the analysts’ view is premiums narrow as French 2RS harvest advances. The UK and Danish premiums are steady for crop 2022. With a weaker euro, European barley is more competitive in USD terms for global end-users.
