World: Malting barley prices boosted by mounting concerns over dryness in Europe
Mounting concerns about dryness in Europe are boosting malting barley prices, even while outside influences (e.g. wheat) are more limited, RMI Analytics said in their early May report.
Across the globe, malting barley premiums are increasing in an attempt to maintain the relevance of malting over feed barley.
Crop 2022 prices are drifting higher toward the levels where barley crop 2021 trade finished up. It appears current price levels are well above buying interest (e.g. China) for crop 2022. Meanwhile, the trade (brewers/maltsters) have turned their focus toward crop 2023 which is a USD50-60 discount to crop 2022, the analysts said.
