EU & UK: Spring barley plantings finished in France, almost finished in Germany, the Czech Republic, and the UK
At the end of March spring plantings had been finished in France, between 80 and 100% in Germany, the Czech Republic and Great Britain, and 15 to 25% in South Scandinavia, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their April report.
France has planted 1.252 mln ha of winter barley, 4.6% more than last year. The share of winter malting varieties is 35-40%, therefore France ought to be able again to market 3.3 mln tonnes of 6RW barley. Dominating malting varieties are: 6RW Faro 65%, Etincel 20%; 2RS Planet 75%.
DRV estimates German plantings as follows: winter barley 1.237 mln ha, unchanged from last year, spring barley 326 thousand ha, plus 9.3%. Its forecast of spring barley production is 1.720 mln tonnes, plus 13.3%. In Germany Planet is the leading 2RS variety with 30%, followed by Avalon, Amidala, and Leandra.
