Barley news EU: EU exports 75% of anticipated barley and malt total for 2021/22

As per Taxud, the EU barley exports in July 2021 – February 2022 were 5.2 mln tonnes of barley and 1.9 mln tonnes of malt in barley equivalent, together 75% of the anticipated total 2021/22 exports, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their March report.

China was the largest barley customer with 2.2 – 2.3 mln tonnes.

Taxud has not yet registered 300 thousand tonnes of French barley shipped in recent weeks, and there is also a vessel line-up in ports of 110 thousand tonnes for China and 60 thousand tonnes for Maghreb.

Malting barley shipments are reported as 70 thousand tonnes of Danish barley to the U.S, Canada and China; French barley - a small share of the total loadings - to China plus approximately 30 thousand tonnes to Canada.

The EU also imported 600 thousand tonnes of barley, of which 500 thousand from the U.K., approximately half of it malting barley. Maltsters imported one cargo each of Argentinean and Australian (Planet) malting barley, most likely duty-free under the im/ex system, it is reported.
