Brewing news Ukraine: Beer and malt production decline in 2021

Ukraine’s beer production dropped by 5% to 17.05 mln hl in 2021, trade association Ukrpivo reported on January 12.

The industry body’s statistics don’t include alcohol-free beer and brands with alcohol content below 0.5% alc. by volume).

The nation’s malt output declined last year by 19.5% to 218.5 thousand tonnes.

In 2020, Ukrainian brewers reported a 0.4% drop of volumes versus 2019 (to 17.97 mln hl), whereas malt production declined by 18% to 275 thousand tonnes.

The Beer Business magazine explains the decline in beer output by supply shortages, a lower export, and an increased popularity of alcohol-free brands.
