EU: France dominates global 6-row winter barley trade

Only French 6-row winter barley is traded in large quantities inside the EU and in world markets, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their December report.

Of 8.2 mln tonnes harvested in 2021, 2.95 mln are “preferred malting varieties”, official data showed.

The domestic EU demand is 1.800 mln tonnes. This year’s selection must be much higher than 50% to satisfy the demand, the analysts said.
