China: January-October barley imports total 9.94 mln tonnes

China’s barley imports in January-October were 9.94 mln tonnes, 2.75 each from France and Canada, 2.4 from Ukraine and 1.7 mln tonnes from Argentina, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in its December report.

China had been passive in barley markets during the past months, but purchases have picked up recently.

Imported feed barley is well liked by the industry as a vital component in blended feed.

Since the shutdown of Australian-Chinese barley trade Chinese maltsters are missing their principal choice of malting barley. Canada and France have shipped approximately 300 thousand tonnes of malting barley each, Argentina delivered good quality FAQ barley, but there is still open demand for the first half of 2022. And Argentina is the only possible supplier of major quantities until harvest time in France – shipment August.
