EU: Barley crop forecast at 51.791 mln tonnes versus 53.957 mln in 2020/21

The EU-27 barley crop 2021/22 is forecast at 51.791 mln tonnes versus 53.957 mln tonnes in 2020/21 and 55.024 mln tonnes in 2019/20, the EU Commission reported on November 25.

With imports expected to reach 1.332 mln tonnes (vs. 1.249 last season and 1.893 mln tonnes in 2019/20), total EU barley consumption is forecast to amount to 43.904 mln tonnes, versus 44.417 mln tonnes in 2020/21 and 44.022 mln tonnes in 2019/20.

The EU barley exports (including malt) are seen at 9.5 mln tonnes (vs. 10.646 and 10.501 mln tonnes, respectively, and ending stocks are currently forecast at 4.245 mln tonnes (versus 4.526 and 4.353 mln tonnes, respectively).
