EU: Barley crop forecast to drop to 52.401 mln tonnes in 2021/22

The EU Commission’s Barley Supply and Demand Balance report of September 30 puts the EU-27 barley production in 2021/22 at 52.401 mln tonnes versus 54.628 mln in 2020/21 and 55.024 mln in 2019/20.

With barley imports forecast at 1.335 mln tonnes (1.257 mln in 2020/21 and 1.893 mln tonnes in 2019/20) the EU’s barley consumption is seen at 44.208 mln tonnes (44.421 and 44.022 mln tonnes, respectively).

Exports, including malt, are seen at 9.5 mln tonnes – down from 10.642 mln in 2020/21 and 10.501 mln tonnes in 2019/20.

The ending stocks are forecast to increase to 5.216 mln tonnes from 5.188 mln in 2020/21 and 4.353 mln in 2019/20.
