Barley news World: 2021/22 barley production forecast down 1.2 mln tonnes this month

World barley trade forecast for 2021/22 is increased in USDA’s October report to 33.592 mln tonnes from 33.492 mln forecast in September. The 2020/21 barley trade forecast is 35.265 mln tonnes.

Export forecast is up for Australia – 8 mln tonnes from 7 mln a month ago and down for Canada (1.6 mln from 2 mln in September) and the EU (4.5 mln versus 5 mln tonnes last month).

Production forecast is sharply down – at 147.988 mln tonnes versus 149.279 mln tonnes in September. Canada’s crop is seen at 7.1 mln tonnes (7.8 mln tonnes in the September forecast), the EU’s at 54.3 mln versus 54.6 mln tonnes. The 2020/21 barley crop is estimated at 160.545 mln tonnes.

The global barley consumption 2021/22 is forecast by USDA at 151.775 mln tonnes (vs. 153.272 mln tonnes in their September report), whereas ending stocks are seen at 16.959 mln tonnes versus 17.42 mln in September.
