Argentina: Barley production, exports forecast to increase in 2021/22

Argentina’s barley production is expected to reach 4.6-4.8 mln tonnes in 2021/22, u pfrom 4.1 mln tonnes in 2020/21, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported.

Exports could increase to 3.1-3.2 mln tonnes from 2.5-2.7 mln last season.

In 2021, the nation shipped 1.7 mln tonnes of barley to China, 2021/22 exports to-date are reported at 1.2 mln tonnes.

Argentinean farmers increased their barley acreage by 28%. Growing conditions are benign, present crop estimates are very conservative. Sales to China have changed the Argentinean sale flow; other South American countries must purchase more barley in Australia and Europe than in former years.
