EU: Barley production 2021/22 forecast at 52.926 mln tonnes vs. 54.604 mln last season

EU Commission’s barley supply and demand balance of August 26 puts the EU-27’s barley production forecast for 2021/22 at 52.926 mln tonnes versus 54.604 mln tonnes in 2020/21 and 55.024 mln tonnes in 2019/20, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier this month.

With imports excepted to reach 1.328 mln tonnes (vs. 1.235 mln in 2020/21), domestic consumption of barley is forecast at 44.411 mln tonnes, slightly up from 44.42 mln tonnes last season.

Exports, including malt, are forecast at 9.5 mln tonnes – down from 10.638 mln in 2020/21.

Ending stocks are expected to increase to 5.489 mln tonnes from 5.146 mln last year.
