Germany: Slow harvest progress makes barley markets nervous
The German south and west have been impacted by heavy rains, storms and floods. Harvest progress is slow, yields, test weight and grain size are lower than average, so the barley markets are nervous, the H. M. Gauger GmbH analysts said in their August report.
The north and east have collected their winter barley crops, with variable yields and below average hl-weights. Continued rains endanger the spring barley crops in the fields.
The most recent DRV estimate left the barley production unchanged, with winter barley at 8.9 mln tonnes, spring barley at 1.64 mln.
