EU: Malt exports in barley equivalent expected to remain similar to 2020/21
In 2020/21 the EU exported 7.2 mln tonnes of barley vs. 7.544 mln tonnes (including the U.K.) in 2019/20. Malt exports in barley equivalent were 3.0 mln tonnes, a similarly large figure is expected for the new campaign, which reduces the forecast of 2020/21 barley exports to 7.5 mln and 2021/22 exports to 6.3 mln tonnes (USDA estimate is 7.0 mln tonnes), H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in August.
Over the period July 1 – 25, exports were 530 thousand tonnes vs. 830 thousand a year ago. Main exporters were Romania and Bulgaria with new crop barley, which was and is not available from French and other North European ports yet.
