World: First-half beer sales increase in China, US
China’s beer sales amounted to 39 mln hl in June this year, whereas the January-June volume totalled 189 mln hl – 10.25% more than in the first half of 2020, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in August.
The U.S. levy-paid domestic beer sales were 16.1 mln bbls. in June, minus 0.7%, whereas in January-June they totalled 85.3 mln hl, plus 4.1% y/y. Beer imports in January-May reached 15.64 mln bbls., plus 16.5% y/y.
German beer sales totalled 9.4 mln hl in June, plus 11.2% y/y; January-June saw sales volume reached 41.7 mln hl, minus 2.7 % y/y. In January-June domestic sales were still down by 4.9% y/y, but exports increased by 7.8%. Beer mixes sales of 2.4 mln tonnes in January-June were up by 8.4%. Alcohol-free beer sales are reported to increase strongly, the estimate for January-June is 3.0 – 4.0 mln hl.
In Brazil, Ambev reports sales at 39.8 mln hl in the second quarter of 2021, a plus of 11% vs. last year (figure not valid for the total beer market).
Japan’s 2020 beer output was circa 43.3 mln hl. In January-June this year, production volume showed a minus of 6% y/y. Individual differences are reported as follows: Suntory minus 11%, Asahi minus 8%, Sapporo minus 5%, Kirin minus 2%. No hl-numbers are available for 2021 at this point.
In Spain, beer sales were 39.3 mln hl in in 2019, 36.0 mln - in 2020, and in January-May this year they declined by 11% versus the January-May 2019 sales. No hl-figure is available at the moment.
Ukrainian beer sales in January-June 2021 amounted to 8.43 mln hl, minus 5.4% y/y.
