Brewing news USA, MA: Tree House Brewing to launch a third location in Cape Cod

Tree House Brewing is coming to Cape Cod, the Boston Business Journal reported on November 5.

The brewery with the state's nine highest rated beers announced on its website that it is launching a third location. The brewery's Sandwich outpost is scheduled to open in summer of 2021.

The expansion comes three years after the brewery opened a second location in Charlton, which has become the headquarters for the business. The brewery’s first location in Monson is still operating but is no longer open to the public.

The brewery said the new spot would be both a brewery and a taproom, and would be located by the Sandwich boardwalk overlooking the Cape Cod Canal.

“This year we’ve reflected deeply upon the experience in Charlton and realized that many of the limitations currently in place are a function of over-demand and under-supply; not for beer, but as a communal gathering place," the brewery wrote in a blog post.

"Tree House Cape Cod is part of a broad effort to remedy to this problem, relieving pressure on our main campus while bringing the Tree House experience closer to you," the brewery added.

The brewery said it will bring resident food trucks to the spot.

“A new system for purchasing our beer will be implemented, making it easier than ever to grab our beer or to enjoy a pint,” the brewery said.

The plans come in addition to renovations the brewery said it was implementing elsewhere for the business, though it didn’t say where.

Tree House has grown rapidly since its founding in 2011, when it was just one employee brewing out of 55 barrels in a garage. By the end of the year, it had grown to 13 employees and 650-barrel cellar. In a blog post in May 2018, Tree House executives said they began 2017 producing 270 barrels a week and had grown to producing 1,000 barrels of beer a week. At that rate, the brewery’s production was on track to came close to 14,040 barrels annually at the start of 2017, and 52,000 barrels in mid-2018.

In 2019, the national Brewers Association placed Tree House among the fastest growing breweries in the country.

The brewery has expanded not only its production — which it notably does not distribute beyond the walls of its take-out facility in Charlton — but also its products. In 2020, the brewery announced it would start making and selling its own coffee.
