Barley news China: China banning Australian barley import creates dual world market for the commodity

When China prohibited barley imports from Australia (except for malt import/export-trade), it created a dual world market, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in October.

Only Argentina, Canada, France, and Ukraine are admitted suppliers; agreements with Denmark, Russia, and the U.K. have not resulted in business in recent years.

French barley prices command a premium of USD 10,- vs. other EU markets, Ukrainian feed barley with Chinese specifications is USD 8,- per tonne higher than Russian barley, FOB Black Sea.

China imports feed barley, quantities depend not only, but very much on the price difference versus corn. The country also needs minimum 3.5 mln tonnes of malting barley per year.
