Barley news World: Barley trade forecast reduced by USDA in this month’s report

World barley trade in 2020/21 is expected to total 27.313 mln tonnes, USDA said in its March report, reducing its forecast by 1.49 mln tonnes from last month.

Export forecast is down for Argentina (2.8 mln tonnes vs. 3.2 mln in the February report), Russia (4.6 mln versus 5.6 mln last month), Ukraine (4.7 mln tonnes versus 5 mln in February), and Kazakhstan (1.7 mln versus 1.8 mln tonnes forecast in February) and up for Australia (4 mln tonnes versus 3.8 mln in the February report) and the EU (6.6 mln vs. 6.5 mln tonnes in last month’s report).

World barley production is forecast at 155.67 mln tonnes vs. 156.119 mln last month and 138.764 mln tonnes in 2019/20.

Consumption is seen at 152.592 mln tonnes vs 152.948 mln tonnes in the February forecast and 140.297 mln in 2019/20, and ending stocks are forecast at 20.932 mln tonnes versus 20.982 and 17.854 mln tonnes, respectively.
