Brewing news USA, MS: Threefoot Brewing Company in the works in downtown Meridian

A new brewery is in the works in downtown Meridian. Co-owner John Purdy said he started home brewing around 7 years ago and decided he wanted to do it professionally, WTOK reported on November 27.

Purdy says Threefoot Brewing Company was inspired by one of Meridian's most historic buildings.

"Threefoot was the iconic building in Meridian and the two brothers that built that building had a lot of aspirations for what they wanted this community to be,” said Purdy. “That’s really what we wanted to espouse with Threefoot Brewing Company."

Purdy said after closing on the building, located on 23rd Avenue next to city hall, he and his team got right to work.

Investor and chief demolition director, Rebecca Combs-Dulaney, said the brewery will bring a new atmosphere to downtown.

“This is a project that was long and developing,” said Combs-Dulaney. “It’s an exciting process because every day you can see a tangible difference in what you've accomplished."

Purdy's wife and co-owner of Threefoot Brewing, Bridget Purdy, agrees that it is rewarding to watch what started simply as an idea actually come to life.

"It has been an exciting process, one we are very, very happy to see continue,” said Purdy.

Along with beer, the team says Threefoot Brewing will offer food and activities for the community to enjoy.

"We definitely want to create a family atmosphere here,” said John Purdy.

“Hopefully it will be a welcoming place for everybody to come and visit and have fun,” said Combs-Dulaney.

John Purdy said he wants to see the brewery open sometime next summer. Also, two fully furnished apartment homes are expected to be available for rent right above the brewery.
