USA, TX: Blue Star Brewing Company opening second location in San Antonio

The Blue Star Brewing Company is opening a second location at San Antonio’s North Star Mall, the San Antonio Express-News reported on November 26.

Owners Joey Villarreal and his wife, Magdalena, said there will be a soft opening for the new space on Friday, November 29.

"We are really excited to be a part of North Star Mall and have the opportunity to share our food and beers to everyone on the North Side," said Laura De Leon, executive assistant for Blue Star Brewing.

Blue Star Brewing, located on the South Side, has been open since 1996, offering patrons dozens of craft beers and bar food. The couple also owns Joey's on the St. Mary's Strip and Joe's Blues on the South Side.

The establishment said North Star Mall reached out to the South Side brewery looking for a way to offer craft beer to its patrons. De Leon said they were looking for a place to expand near the AT&T Center or the airport but decided North Star would be a perfect fit.

De Leon said the new location will have its full alcohol menu, including the addition of frozen margaritas, espresso and other drinks, adding that the food menu is "very San Antonian."

"We want to do brisket, cheetos and cheese stuff that represents San Antonio," De Leon said.

She also said the North Star location will be a reflection of the kiosk they already offer downtown.

The restaurant has been keeping the expansion secret for a few weeks. De Leon said they are expecting everything to be in place in time to open for Black Friday.
