Brewing news Australia: Scottish craft brewer BrewDog opens new production facility in Brisbane

Scottish craft brewer BrewDog has opened its A$30 mln ($20.4 mln) production brewery and taproom in Brisbane, Queensland, the Drinks Insight Network reported on November 21.

The DogTap Brisbane is reported to be BrewDog’s first in the Southern Hemisphere.

Queensland minister for state development and manufacturing Cameron Dick said: “BrewDog were looking to establish a brewery in Australia, but their final investment decision pitted Brisbane, Queensland against Newcastle, New South Wales.

“Craft brewing in Queensland continues to grow and thrive, and with BrewDog also selling local craft beers and planning collaborations in the future, our industry’s global reputation and reach will only go further.”

Dick added that the Queensland government has agreed to offer A$150 mln ($102 mln) to the Scottish brewer through its Advance Queensland Industry Attraction Fund.

To support and encourage local Queensland brewers, the brewery and taproom will also feature local beer brands such as Range Brewing, Balter, Currumbin Valley Brewery, Black Hops, Aether and Brouhaha.

Equipped with a line-up of nearly 28 taps, DogTap Brisbane will also offer non-alcoholic brews to its customers.

BrewDog Australia operations manager Calvin McDonald said: “When BrewDog started to look at establishing in Australia, the first thing we noticed was the exciting phase the Queensland craft brewing scene was starting to move into.

“It made choosing to base ourselves in Queensland an easier call, and with the help of the Queensland Government and the Queensland community we look forward to welcoming brew lovers from far and wide to our world-class craft brewery and taproom at Murarrie.”

The facility is also expected to create more employment opportunities in the region.
