China: Barley imports total 3.4 mln tonnes in January-July this year

China’s barley imports in January-July were 3.4 mln tonnes, feed and malting. In the same period malt exports were 265 thousand tonnes, H. M. Gauger GbmH reported earlier in November.

A private estimate of the domestic selection of malting barley is 400 thousand tonnes, half from the Shanghai region and half from Gansu/Inner Mongolia.

Barley imports for 2019 are forecast to reach max. 3.8 mln tonnes. Chinese maltsters prefer Australian barley, but they must wait for the final verdict of the dumping investigation.
