Japan: Suntory consolidates its positions in China
The Japan leading producer and distributor of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages Suntory is considering the option to take complete control of its subsidiary and a joint venture in China in order to augment its presence there, local reports have informed on May 09.
The Japanese drinks group is looking to make double annual soft drinks outputs no less than 5 million cases, the Nihon Keizai Shimbum said on 9 May.
Suntory established a manufacturing and sales venture with Shanghai Maling Aquarius Co. and others in 1995. Suntory (China) Holding Co., Suntory’s Chinese unit, will purchase its partner’s stakes of 30% in the joint venture and 6.4% in its affiliate for about JPY1bn (US$9m).
Suntory is also to owner of two breweries in China, Suntory Brewing (Shanghai) Co. and Suntory Brewing (Kunshan) Co.
