Barley news World: USDA’s monthly Supply & Demand report for barley

USDA released on April 10 their monthly S&D report, and made only minor adjustments to domestic usage – they lowered US feed usage by 15 mil bu to 55 mil bu and raised food usage by 15 mil bu to 155 mil bu, leaving ending stocks unchanged at 105 mil bu.

World barley production is now estimated 10.5% lower at 137.4 MMT. US production fell 24.3% to 4.6 MMT.

World barley supplies are pegged 3.1% smaller at 170.1 MMT. US supplies decreased by 14.9% to 7.4 MMT.

World barley trade is expected to increase by 4.1% to 18.0 MMT. US exports are expected to decrease 47% to 0.4 MMT, which is a smaller cut than last month due to recent US barley sales to Saudi Arabia.

World barley consumption is pegged to increase slightly to 143.4 MMT. US usage projected to decrease by 19% to 4.6 MMT.

World barley carryover stocks are estimated to decrease 18.3% to 26.7 MMT. US carryout is projected to decrease by 18% to 2.3 MMT.
