Brewing news USA: Anheuser-Busch advertising goes mobile with MobiTV

Anheuser-Busch announced on April 6 it will delve deeper into the world of trend-setting mobile electronic media by partnering with MobiTV, the industry leading mobile television provider, to broadcast new advertising creative to more than 1 million subscribers of MobiTV’s mobile television service.

The MobiTV service offers both live and made-for-mobile television programming and original content from some of the nation’s most-watched networks including ABC, MSNBC, CNN, ESPN and FOX. Anheuser-Busch will supplement the programming with nearly 13,000 30-second ads per month, or 18 ads per hour of programming across MobiTV’s 30 channels. The majority of spots will feature Bud Light, highlighting some of the brand’s more recent popular ads from the “Always Worth It” campaign such as “Secret Fridge,” along with new creative from Budweiser Select.

“The 21- to 35-year-old beer drinker is increasingly tech-savvy, seeking out the latest gadgets and technology, not just for fun, but in order to stay informed,” said Tim Murphy, senior director, Creative Development, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. “Advertising is just the tip of the iceberg for this partnership. We see tremendous possibilities in the realm of consumer promotions, advertising and edgy creative content that can reach our upwardly mobile audience through the MobiTV service.”

“The Bud Light brand is an ideal fit for much of our service demographic,” said Jack Hallahan, vice president of Advertising Sales and Brand Partnerships for MobiTV. “As one of the advertising innovators, Anheuser-Busch will see great value in the distribution offering MobiTV supports. At the same time our viewers will have access to much more relevant, non-intrusive and entertaining ads geared for the mobile viewer.”

MobiTV is the first mobile television and digital radio service provider for cellular, WiFi and broadband enabled devices worldwide. The MobiTV service is available in the United States through Sprint, Cingular, Alltel; in the United Kingdom through 3 and Orange UK; and to Canadian customers through Bell Canada, Rogers and TELUS Mobility; and other regional carriers around the world. The Emmy Award-winning service has more than one million paying subscribers and offers many popular TV channels from content providers such as MSNBC, ABC News Now, CNN, Fox News, Fox Sports, ESPN 3GTV, NBC Mobile, CNBC, The Discovery Channel, TLC, The Weather Channel, along with cartoons, music videos, comedy and more. Founded in 1999, MobiTV is a privately-held company headquartered in Emeryville, Calif.

Based in St. Louis, Anheuser Busch is the leading American brewer, holding nearly 50 percent share of U.S. beer sales. The company brews the world’s largest-selling beers, Budweiser and Bud Light. Anheuser Busch also owns a 50 percent share in Grupo Modelo, Mexico’s leading brewer, and a 27 percent share in Tsingtao, the No. 1 brewer in China. Anheuser-Busch ranked No. 1 among beverage companies in FORTUNE Magazine's Most Admired U.S. and Global Companies lists in 2006.
