Bulgaria exported about 170,000 metric tonnes of barley during July 2005-February 2006. In the same period of 2004-2005 season Bulgaria exported 380,000 metric tonnes of barley.

Therefore, the export potential for March-June is very small, about 30,000 metric tonnes. According to analysts’ estimates in 2005-2006 season Bulgaria exports about 200,000 metric tonnes (420,000 metric tonnes last season).

The following countries were the main importers of Bulgarian barley: Saudi Arabia (39,900 metric tonnes), Jordan (26,000 metric tonnes). 32% of the total quantity was exported to the EU countries (53,400 metric tonnes) incl. Greece (23,400 metric tones), Spain (10,300 metric tonnes), Holland (10,000 metric tonnes). It is worth reminding that the quota for duty free barley imports into the EU countries is equal to 60,000 metric tonnes for the season of 2005-2006.
