Barley news USA: Cargill is a New Founding Partner for LifeKnowledge FFA Initiative

The National FFA Foundation announced on March 2 that Cargill has committed $500,000 to become a Founding Partner for the LifeKnowledge® Center for Agricultural Education. Funds will be used to help extend, enhance and support the LifeKnowledge series of integrated youth development lessons created by the National FFA Organization.

“Cargill is proud to be a Founding Partner of LifeKnowledge,” said Jerry Rose, corporate vice president of Cargill. “We see LifeKnowledge as a unique vehicle to bring training and tools to equip our youth with the leadership skills that are necessary for the future: critical thinking, creativity and a sense of strong ethics.”

A total of $2.5 million has been contributed by five Founding Partners, which will be used to develop additional instructional and assessment tools, provide professional development for teachers and help expand the reach of the program with online delivery to all agriculture education programs throughout the United States. Other Founding Partners are Monsanto, John Deere, the National Pork Board and Chevrolet.

LifeKnowledge is a comprehensive approach to leadership training created by the National FFA Organization in its quest to make a positive difference in the lives of all students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

The LifeKnowledge Center for Agricultural Education operates as a self-supporting entity, and will focus on providing leadership skills to more than 8 million agriculture students during the next decade.

The LifeKnowledge Center for Agricultural Education was officially approved by the National FFA Board of Directors in July 2005. The Research, Development and Sponsored Programs Division of the National FFA Organization will spearhead the development of new LifeKnowledge resources for educators and students.
