Brewing news USA, CO: Banded Oak Brewing Company to host a farewell party on September 6

A brewery that has been serving hops on South Broadway in Denver for about 10 years now is hosting a farewell party on Saturday, September 6 before it closes its doors for good, KDVR reported.

Owner Will Curtin told FOX31 that while it is the end of an era for one brand, he is looking forward to a new endeavour in the local beer scene.

Banded Oak Brewing Company, located at 470 S. Broadway, grew a loyal fan base of regulars over the years and was one of several venues to host musicians for the annual Underground Music Showcase.

The company announced its plans to close in early July, and the time has come. On Saturday, there will be an Oktoberfest-style farewell party with live music, beer and food to send off the brand’s legacy.

“The farewell party is essentially saying goodbye to the brand. Banded Oak, you know, we’ve been on Broadway for 10 years. We’ve specialized in barrel-aged beers, big, full-bodied, high alcohol, delicious, complex beers. The farewell party is to say goodbye to that,” Curtin said.

He said one thing he and brewer Chris will miss the most is the people of South Broadway.

“It’s been sort of a meeting place, a place to potentially meet your significant other, it was just kind of cool being a part of people’s story,” Curtin said. “It was a lot of fun on Broadway, and it just has a lot of really interesting personalities that we’ll definitely miss.”

Curtin said he had been looking for a new location for a couple of years, anticipating that the landlord would increase rent. However, he couldn’t find another location on Broadway that met the company’s needs. Rent went up, and he decided to make a shift.

Meanwhile, restaurant group The Werks acquired Paramount Bowl in Wheat Ridge, which had been operating as a bowling alley from 1954 to 2019. Curtin said the building was set to become home to a new business called Live Slow Brewing Company, however, that plan fell through after a new 20-barrel brewing system was already installed.

So, Curtin partnered with The Werks to create the new brand Paramount Beerwerks, which is now the on-site brewing company for the bowling alley/brewery/bike shop/restaurant.

“With Paramount, we’re making it more something you would drink while bowling, something you would drink while eating, just a little more lighter alcohol, more food pairing possible,” Curtin said.

He said the new project has been a success so far, and there is even more to look forward to. The Werks plans on opening another spot in Boulder this year, and even more beyond that.

Plus, Curtin said he hopes to host local musicians like they did at Banded Oak.

The new spot is located at 27th and Kipling Street in Wheat Ridge.
