Barley news Argentina: Barley crop of more than 5 mln tonnes remains a possibility

Despite further rains over the past two weeks, barley seeding has concluded in southern Buenos Aires province. This leaves the crop slightly behind normal in terms of timing, but the good moisture profile resulting from the wet conditions is a benefit for early crop development. However, the lateness of seeding did lead to some minor shifting away from barley planted area, RMI Analytics said in their early August report.

Despite this slight reduction is planted area, the experts’ barley crop’25 forecast for the nation is steady at 4.8 mln tonnes, and if the near perfect early crop conditions continue, an increase in production to 5.0 mln+ remains a possibility but more rain will ultimately be required.

The long-term average barley yields for Argentina is 3.74 tonnes/ha, as a reliable source of quality malting barley over this period.
