Barley news EU & UK: Barley crop forecast is down 1.1 mln tones amid weather concerns

RMI Analytics’ crop 2024 EU+UK forecast is down 1.1 mln tonnes to 60 mln as weather raises concerns about crop potential.

Winter crops across Europe have suffered from extremely wet conditions which delayed planting and slowed emergence. Spring barley conditions remain wet, and further delay seeding and the forecast for the next week is wet.

French planting progress is about 50% versus 100% last year, increasing yield and quality concerns during high summer heat.

The price direction has reversed with a bounce higher, driven mainly by late spring barley planting. Market price structure is unchanged, with Denmark working through difficult quality challenges, and the UK and France balancing the region’s overall needs, while demand remains weak.
