Barley news Australia: Barley crop forecast at up to 14.8 mln tonnes but impact of heavy rains yet to be assessed

Rabobank forecasts a 2022/23 barley crop of 14.8 mln tonnes in Australia, up 7% y/y, a new record crop with the best results in South and Western Australia, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in November.

GIWA predicts a Western Australia production of 6.05 mln tonnes. ABARES had only forecast 12.25 mln for the whole country and 4.8 mln tonnes for Western Australia. However, heavy rains and floods have damaged grain lands in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, reducing volumes and qualities. Total losses of up to 20% are seen in southern Queensland and Northwest New South Wales, while they cannot be assessed yet in Victoria.
