Barley news Argentina: Barley forecast of 5.37 mln tonnes could increase - analysts

As the main planting window approaches, there have been some beneficial rains in southern Buenos Aires province while dryness is a concern in the north of Argentina, RMI Analytics said in their latest report earlier this month.

The nation’s barley production forecast remains at 5.37 mln tonnes for now but it could increase, the analysts said.

Fertilizer prices are lower, supporting farmer net margins and may support farmers adding inputs in the pursuit of malting barley quality. Barley crop 2022 seeding is now underway.

Prices are steady for malting barley with little demand present, while FAQ values have slipped. With farmers planting the crop, the willingness to sell a further portion of the crop is increasing but may need planting to start. Barley is lightly favoured over wheat from a price and political risk perspective (there is fear that government may increase wheat export tax).
