Barley news Argentina: Barley prices are higher with farmer selling non-existent

Argentina’s barley prices are higher as farmer selling is non-existent while demand for crop 2021 is still present (e.g. China and India) and enquiries from China for new crop persist, but little is being sold, RMI Analytics said in their late May report.

The biggest topic currently is Argentina government’s potential to increase export taxes, including those on wheat and barley. Any such move would be bullish to prices, as farmers are already reluctant to sell at this early stage.

For crop 2022, export licenses granted include 630 thousand tonnes of feed and 20 thousand tonnes of malting barley. In an effort to attract malting barley production, crop 2022 contracting programs have been released to farmers with malting premiums over feed barley in a range of USD24-39 per tonne.
