EU: Barley production forecast to increase to 53.472 mln tonnes in 2022/23

The EU Commission’s barley supply and demand balance of April, 1 forecasts the EU-27 2022/23 barley production at 53.472 mln tonnes versus 51.972 mln in 2021/22, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their early May report.

Barley imports are seen at 1 mln tonnes, unchanged from 2021/22 and down from 1.249 mln tonnes in 2020/21.

Consumption is forecast to increase to 44.603 mln tonnes from 43.905 mln in 2021/22 and 44.417 mln in 2020/21.

With exports also seen slightly up (9.625 mln tonnes vs. 9.5 mln in 2021/22), ending stocks could total 4.345 mln tonnes (vs. 4.101 mln in 2021/22), the EU Commission said.
