Barley news EU & UK: Barley 2022 prices moving higher, mainly through malting barley premiums

With dryness concerns present across northern European barley crops (France and Germany), crop 2022 prices are moving higher, mainly through higher malting barley premiums, RMI Analytics said in their early May report.

In France, as of the beginning of this month, price action was greater for spring barley and the expectations are that the winter crop is better placed to manage the current lack of moisture. Crops are still looking good but the impact of dryness is starting to show.

Denmark and Sweden crops are mostly planted, on average to even slightly earlier than normal. Farmers are reluctant sellers at this early stage.

In the UK, crops look very good but dryness is having an impact there as well. Similar to France, there is rain in the forecast and is being watched closely.
