Barley news Argentina: Remaining barley surplus for crop 2021/22 estimated close to 1 mln tonnes

Export licences granted for crop 2021/22 in Argentina to-date are for 2.4 mln tonnes of feed, 0.8 mln tonnes of malting barley. The remaining surplus is close to 1 mln tonnes, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their May report.

After a sale of 2 cargoes of FAQ barley to China at a reported price of US$410 C+F, markets went up to $430 without further business.

Early forecasts for crop 2022/23 are for an increase of acreage to 1.265 mln ha. A production of 5.3 mln tonnes seems possible, leaving an export surplus of almost 4.0 mln tonnes.

FAQ barley exports, principally to China, are anticipated at 2.6 – 2.8 mln tonnes. New crop shipments of 520 thousand tonnes have already been licenced. New crop prices equal the old crop levels, local sources report.
