Hops news World: World hopsn acreage, production expected to decrease this year

In a video conference of the International Hop Growers’ Convention (IHGC) last week, first estimates for hop acreage development in 2022 were made. According to these, world hop acreage is expected to decrease compared to the previous year, HVG reported on May 6.

While the IHGC expects a decline of approximately 1,000 ha, the German hop trade organisation Deutscher Hopfenwirtschaftsverband (DHWV) estimates a reduction of up to 3,000 ha.

Assuming average yields, IHGC expect world hops production volume at 128 thousand tonnes versus 131 thousand in 2021 and 124,400 in 2020.

The official figures will be finalized by mid-June.
