World: China, Germany report increase in beer output in January-February this year

Chinese beer output in January-February 2022 totalled 53.1 mln hl, plus 3.6% y/y, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in April.

German beer sales were 5.8 mln hl in February, plus 12.1% y/y, and 10.9 mln hl in January-February, plus 9.9% y/y.

German malt production in 2021 was 2.02 mln tonnes, up 30,000 tonnes as compared to 2020. It was in line with past years, except for the record year of 2.1 mln tonnes in 2019.

Russian beer sales totalled 80.0 mln hl in 2021, plus 2.8% y/y, of which traditional beer 70.4 mln hl., plus 1.4% y/y, whereas beer-like drinks output was 9.6 mln hl, plus 15% y/y.

United Kingdom 2021 beer sales are reported at 25.55 mln hl vs. 24.13 mln in 2020. According to private estimates, malt use for beer increased from 475 to 500 thousand tonnes y/y, usage for whisky is estimated at 800 thousand tonnes.

U.S. domestic beer sales in February totalled 11.1 mln barrels, minus 5.8% y/y, January-February saw sales volume of 23.4 mln barrels, minus 6% y/y. U.S. beer imports were 3.03 mln barrels in January, minus 3.7% % y/y.
