Barley news North America: Canada’s feed barley deficit to be compensated by imports of US Yellow Corn

Canada’s huge feed barley deficit will be compensated by imports of up to 5.0 mln tonnes of U.S. Yellow Corn, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their March report.

Canada has exported 2.04 mln tonnes of barley to-date, of which 1.91 mln to China. Known import purchases of malting barley are to Canada: 60 thousand tonnes of Australian, 28.5 thousand tonnes of French and 22.5 thousand tonnes of Danish; to the U.S. one cargo each from Denmark and Argentina.

The large moisture deficit of last year has only been partially compensated by rain and snow this winter. South-western Saskatchewan and Alberta still look particularly dry. High cost of fertilizer and herbicides may lead to lower wheat and higher barley acreage.
