Barley news World: Barley trade forecast increased in USDA’s first report of 2022

World barley trade forecast for 2021/22 is increased to 34.067 mln tonnes in USDA’s January report versus 33.592 mln tonnes forecast last month.

Exports forecast is up for Australia (+500 thousand tonnes to 8.5 mln) and down for Canada (-100 thousand tonnes to 1.5 mln). Import forecast is up to Iran (+100 thousand tonnes to 2.3 mln tonnes) and Libya (+150 thousand tonnes to 850 thousand).

The forecast for the 2020/21 trade volume is 36.733 mln tonnes.

Global barley production forecast is down this month – at 145.511 mln tonnes vs. 146.243 mln tonnes in USDA’s December report and 159.385 mln tonnes estimated for 2020/21.

Barley consumption forecast for 2021/22 is 149.751 mln tonnes versus 150.315 mln tonnes forecast in December and 160.495 mln tonnes forecast for 2020/21. Ending stocks are seen at 16.931 mln tonnes versus 16.9 mln and 21.171 mln tonnes, respectively.
