Barley news Black Sea: Russia’s barley exports to-date reported at 2 mln, Ukraine’s at 5.3 mln tonnes

Russia’s barley exports reflect the crop results: the nation harvested 18 mln vs. 21 mln tonnes a year ago. Export to-date are 2.0 mln vs. 3.15 mln tonnes last season, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their December report.

The contrary is true for the Ukraine: production 9.35 mln tonnes vs. 7.65 mln tonnes last year. Exports to-date (including loading) are reported at 5.3 mln tonnes.

Wheat crops/exports show the same changes, Russia e.g. harvested 4.0 mln tonnes less wheat, Ukraine 3.1 mln tonnes more.

Russia has introduced export taxes for grain exports, at present US$ 68.30 per tonne for barley and US$ 80.80 for wheat. The government will also impose export quotas in the new year. Thereby it is hoped to limit exports in favor of domestic supplies and stop the drastic food inflation in the retail trade.
